Thwaite St. Mary War Memorial
Thwaite St. Mary War Memorial
This First World War memorial bears just three names.
However, the village lost five men in the Great War, the missing names are:
Valentine Lang Stuart SEARLE a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery and Victor Claude MORTLOCK a Lance Corporal who served in the Norfolk Regiment and is buried in the churchyard.
It is not uncommon to omit men buried in the churchyards from the parish memorial as they are considered to be remembered, the truth however is that they are often forgotten.
The War Memorials of Norfolk & Suffolk

In Honour of those who served and in Memory of those who fell.
