The terrace, and the raised pavement built over vaulted cellars in front of the entire terrace, are listed as Grade II*. Construction started in 1791 and completed in 1820. Royal York Crescent has been claimed to be the longest terrace in Europe, although Royal Terrace, Edinburgh is about 30m longer.
