The bold early Gothic detail of this 1870-72 church is characteristic of the work of Samuel Sanders Teulon who designed it. So too are the broad chancel arch low stone screen across the arch. Both these allow a clear view of the altar and indicate that Teulon was designing for a "low" church congregation. The church has since gone "high", witness the icons on the windowsills and the angels along the walls interspersed with stations of the cross.

St Frideswide was open both for Oxford Open Doors (the local name for Heritage Open Days) and Ride and Stride. I since learned that a door inside the church was carved by Alice "in Wonderland" Liddell; I am guessing that it is the one on the left of the picture.
