Crowds in Manchesterís Albert Square for the final weekend of the RAF100 Aircraft Tour during the weekend of 14th-16th September 2018. The tour was a free public display of iconic aircraft in city locations around the country to coincide with the centenary of the formation of the Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918.

During the course of the weekend, visitors to the display were able to get a close look at a selection of aircraft covering the RAFís history from the First World War to the modern age. The Supermarine Spitfire served the RAF from 1938 until 1951, playing a crucial role in the Second World War. The Spitfire Mk1A is popularly perceived to have been the main RAF fighter during the Battle of Britain although the more numerous Hawker Hurricane shouldered a greater proportion of the burden against the Luftwaffe. Spitfire units were, however, the more successful because of the fighterís higher performance and its better manoeuvrability
