A corner lost in the park
A corner lost in the park
Bristol's Castle Park is today a large and open grassy area, very popular with summer visitors. But the original castle was destroyed after the Civil War, and a number of homes and warehouses built over the remnants. Here we can see the old south west corner that was lost and reoccupied with merchants' houses - the fireplace can still be easily seen as a 'T' shape in the wall.

The original castle would have had a moat right in front of the camera position.
