Looking down the line at Appleby station
Ribblehead station was opened by the Midland Railway in 1876 on the Settle & Carlisle line. From 1952 to 1968 the station was called Appleby West, the older Appleby East station being nearby on the Eden Valley Railway. The buildings of Appleby East still survive. It was the only station between Settle and Carlisle to remain open throughout the life of the line up to the present day. More about the station can be seen at LinkExternal link
