St John's Street Vicinity, Cambridge
The Church of All Saints-in-the-Jewry dating back to C11th once stood in St John's Street. The church was rebuilt several times but by the C19th it was eventually deemed too small for its growing congregation. A new “All Saints” was built in Jesus Lane at its junction with Manor Street and the former church was demolished in 1865. The former churchyard is commemorated by a Gothic-style memorial cross designed by Basil Champneys in 1882 although this open space, known as All Saints' Garden, is home to a regular craft market. All Saints Passage, from where this photo was taken links St John's Street (with its college, ahead) and Bridge Street.
