Anderson High School, Lerwick
The Anderson High School in Lerwick is the largest school in Shetland with around 80 staff and about 800-900 pupils aged between 11 and 18. It was founded in August 1862, as the Anderson Educational Institute. It was the gift of Arthur Anderson, who was a Shetland entrepreneur, liberal reformer and co-founder of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company, (which we know today as P&O).

Work on the new building, and its adjacent hostel for students who live farther away, began July 2015 and the Shetland Islands Council took possession of the buildings in 2017 (LinkExternal link Shetland.com).
