Cows and angular rocks
Cows and angular rocks
The rocks and many others nearby were excavated during the building of Hadrian's Wall. Roman engineers created a ditch along the northern side of the wall; at this location however the breaking of the hard dolerite rock was so difficult that a stretch of the ditch wasn't completed.
