In the floor of the valley, the rural scrapyard still persists (see NY7341 : Rural scrapyard near Garrigill) beside the shingle bed of the River South Tyne. The road from Alston to Garrigill traverses the opposite hillside with Cropshall Farm NY7342 visible to the left. The B6277 to Teesdale runs just below the skyline.
