Dagalien passing Bigga
The Yell to Shetland Ferry 'Dagalien' passes the south-eastern end of the island of Bigga on the ferry route to Toft on mainland Shetland. This photograph was taken from its sister ship 'Daggri' travelling in the opposite direction, towards Ulsta on the island of Yell.
Dagalien and Daggri - Yell Sound ferries
Dagalien and Daggri are sister ships which ferry passengers across Yell Sound from Booth of Toft on Mainland, Shetland to Ulsta on Yell.
They were both built in Gdansk in Poland, and entered service in 2004 and have the identical dimensions: Length: 65.36m; Breadth: 13.8m; Draught 3.8m; Gross Weight 1861 tonnes.
They can each carry 95* passengers, 31 cars and 4 trucks with a crew of 4 or 5.
*(May be as many as 144 if extra passengers stay in their cars I think)
Dagalien replaced the Hendra, while Daggri replaced the Bigga.
