Cloister Court, Queens' College, Cambridge
Renovation work in progress on the half-timbered President's Gallery that dates from c.1540. These cloister arches with their two orders of chamfered bricks distinguish them from the arches of the cloisters of the east side - the internal aspect - of the Riverside Building, which have three orders. A study of the intersection of the side cloisters with the river-facing building shows that the side cloisters were constructed after those of the Riverside Building (c.1460). Extensive work was done on the south side of the Long Gallery in 1911, when much of the exterior plaster was removed, the spaces between the studs filled and the gallery finish in half-timbered style.
