Appleby Frodingham Steelworks - pipework
The site is traversed and encircled by huge overhead pipelines. The large bore brown pipe is blast furnace gas, the smaller brown pipe is coke oven gas and the silver pipe that loops down is steam. The loops are essential for expansion purposes. The gas mains have flat diaphragm type expansion joints - one is seen on the big pipe at the right hand end of the scaffolding.
