The station, which opened in 1924, was the first on the second section of the extension to Edgware. The station originally had a classical style entrance building designed by Stanley Heaps, the head of the Underground's Architects Office. The station was severely damaged during the Blitz; the simple temporary timber structure erected after the bombing actually lasted longer than the original building, as it was not replaced until 1962 when a new building was constructed incorporating shops - see TQ2189 : Colindale tube station, entrance (photographed by Oxyman). This in turn had almost entirely been demolished by early 2012 - see TQ2189 : Colindale tube station entrance. The replacement modern entrance building is harmless enough - see TQ2189 : Colindale tube station - entrance building, but it's overshadowed by a hideous tower block - see TQ2189 : New development by Colindale tube station, Colindale Avenue and TQ2189 : New development by Colindale tube station, Colindale Avenue (2).
