The station, which was called just "Brent" when it opened in November 1923 was the first on the extension from Golders Green to Edgware of what is now the Northern Line. It was re-named in 1976 when Brent Cross shopping centre opened. In common with neighbouring stations on this north-western branch of the line, the station was built to designs by Stanley Heaps, architect to London Underground LinkExternal link . The station is Grade II listed LinkExternal link .
