STEVE over Baltasound
STEVE over Baltasound
Steve is a recently-discovered but not rare atmospheric phenomenon caused by a 25 km wide ribbon of hot fast-moving gases at high altitude. The name was suggested by one of the original finders based on the 2006 animated movie 'Over the Hedge', in which its characters choose the name for something unknown to make it seems less scary. The 'backronym' Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement has since been coined and has been adopted by NASA.
