Site of a demolition in Nenthead
The demolition has taken place and the site is being cleared. Since 1909 this location, central in the village of Nenthead, has been occupied by a large, brick-built, industrial building built by the Vieille Montagne Company of Belgium; its purpose was the processing of zinc ores. For many years the building has been the garage for the Wrights Brothers bus company; local information is that a new garage will be built on the site.
The building had been deteriorating for decades and at best could only have been described as unlovely; all the same, a piece of north-Pennine mining heritage has been lost.
