Peterborough Station
Peterborough Station
Peterborough Station, which is viewed here from Crescent Bridge on Thorpe Road, was originally built by the Great Northern Railway (GNR) and opened in August 1850. It was known as Peterborough North from 1923 until the closure of the city's former East station in 1966.
Extensive modification to both the buildings and track layout at Peterborough Station was undertaken during the 1970s and in 2013 and 2014. At the time of writing, services to and from Peterborough were operated by the London North Eastern Railway (LNER), Great Northern, CrossCountry, East Midlands Trains and Greater Anglia.
The Great Northern Hotel, which opened in April 1852, can be seen in the background to the right of the image.
