At No.76 South Bridge Road, the former Winding House, built 1866, the sole surviving building of the former Victoria Dock. It was designed to accommodate a coal-fired steam engine and winching mechanism to pull vessels along the former patent No.2 slipway, since converted to a pond.

Work is presently underway to convert the building to five apartments, which will involve, inter alia, adding a new second storey. Planning permission was granted by the City Council on 13 October 2017.

Victoria Dock opened 1850 and closed to commercial traffic 1970. The following year the dock, except for the half-tide basin, was filled in. In 1987 the City Council acquired the dock estate from ABP (Associated British Ports). The same year, the Council entered into a partnership with Bellway Homes Ltd to redevelop the estate for new homes, a marina, a park, playing fields, community centre, maritime museum and community school. House-building commenced in 1988.
