The buildings of Hulne Priory sit atop a low hill above the River Aln in what is now Hulne Park on the Alnwick Castle estate. The priory was a Carmelite foundation of 1242. A substantial wall surrounds the site, dating from the 15th century when there were fears of raids from over the border. The main gate house entrance is hidden behind the tree to the right, whilst the prominent tower to the left was built in 1486 for Sir Henry Percy, though with 'gothick' style windows etc inserted in the 18th century, when this became more of a summer retreat.
