The park was originally called Gilbert's Recreation ground, named after the owner and was leased to Eastbourne Borough Council in 1907. On 30th June 1931 the Prince of Wales (later Edward VIIIth), visited the park and planted an Evergreen Oak. The park was shortly renamed Princes Park in his honour.
This view looks down the ornamental canal towards Crumbles Pond in the distance.
As a Trustee of the building, we are renewing the stonework including replacing the plaque on the Carlton Road side. It would be nice to have the original date (193?) and other details inscribed on the new plaque but these has disappeared through weathering.
