The name of Fleet Street gives a clue as to the former use of the huge office building which this pub is a part of. It was built in 1965 as the print works and offices of the Newcastle newspapers The Journal and The Evening Chronicle. The bar was originally called The Printers Pie, and was a favourite haunt for both print workers and journalists. However by 2015 the print works had closed and the newspaper offices had moved to another, smaller site in the city. So, only the name remains as a reminder of former times.
