L&Y map and war memorial
On a wall at Victoria Station is a huge ceramic map depicting the routes of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway system. Victoria Station was the hub of the company's operations; L&YR operated most of the trains from the station between 1847 and 1923, when it became one of the main constituents of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway. The map probably dates from the time of station's rebuilding in 1904.

Below the map a bronze memorial tablet was unveiled by Field Marshal The Earl Haig on 14th February 1922 "to perpetuate the memory of the men of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway whose names are recorded here and who gave their lives for their King and Country in the Great War 1914 - 1919".

Seven panels list their names - 1460 in total - (Imperial War Museum listing - LinkExternal link )

Relief panels at each end of the name panels depict (right) the mounted figure of St George slaying the dragon SJ8498 : St George, and (left) the winged St Michael with his foot on the neck of the fallen Satan SJ8498 : St Michael.
