The Black Gate
The Black Gate
This is the barbican built in 1247 to guard the north gate of the castle at Newcastle. The name comes from a former tenant in the C17. In the late C19 it was purchased by the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle, who restored it and added the top floor and pitched roof.
