Wave-cut platforms at Woodcombe Sand
Wave-cut platforms at Woodcombe Sand
Different levels of platforms, with the higher level(s) relating to the previous interglacial period when temperatures were slightly warmer and sea levels a couple of metres higher. The cliffs behind are head deposits from the intervening glacial period, when glaciers didn't reach this area but tundra (periglacial) conditions prevailed for tens of thousands of years.
