These two houses, which fronted on to the Lincolnshire Loop Line, were located on Lincoln Road at the junction with Hurn Road. As of late November 2018, they were being prepared for demolition as part of the Werrington Grade Separation Plan.
The plan involves the construction of a new connection between the Stamford Lines and the Great Northern Great Eastern (GNGE) line at Werrington Junction just north of Peterborough. Hitherto, trains joining or leaving the GNGE here have been obliged to cross the East Coast Main Line (ECML), resulting in delays and bottlenecks.
The Grade Separation Plan provides for a new three-kilometre line including an underpass (or "dive under") enabling trains to pass underneath the ECML. The project was approved by the Secretary of State for Transport in August 2018. The work is estimated to cost £200 million (GBP 200 million) and is scheduled for completion in early 2021.
The "dive under" at Werrington Junction is also intended to reduce pressure on the ECML, a busy route for high-speed passenger trains, by enabling more slower-moving freight traffic to be re-routed via the GNGE line.
