Carousels on Hyde Civic Square
In the run-up to the switching on of the Christmas Lights there was a program of events on Hyde Civic Square throughout the day. There were extra stalls and fun rides for children. The tea-cup carousel in the background was only there for the day but the one on the right is a permanent fixture and has been here for around a hundred years.
Cooke's Children's Carousel
The roundabout on Hyde Market was manufactured by Halsteads of Sowerby Bridge in 1897. It was established on Hyde Market in 1919 by John William (Jack) Greaves. In the 1920s he passed it to his daughter Lily and her husband Bill Cooke. It has now been in the Cooke family for three generations.
