NZ2463 : Newcastle Central Station from the Castle

taken 40 years ago, near to Gateshead, England

Newcastle Central Station from the Castle
Newcastle Central Station from the Castle
A poor quality example of this often photographed view, which shows a phase in the rationalisation of the trackwork through the station. (The opening of the Tyne & Wear Metro system will have removed many suburban services from Central station.) Compare with NZ2463 : Station approach - as it was (1982) and NZ2463 : Newcastle-on-Tyne Station: westward panorama from the Castle, 1960 (1960).
The train is a classic Inter City 125, many of which are still going strong today (2018).
