SO1291 : Potter's recycling centre
taken 5 years ago, near to Llanllwchaiarn, Powys, Wales
There were plans a while back to close either the Welshpool or Newtown recycling site completely as a money-saving measure due to central government funding cuts. The two centres are 12 miles apart and each serves a wide area so the levels of protest at this were high in both areas. Eventually it was decided each would remain open but only on three days per week. Further protests and an inevitable rise in fly-tipping brought about a rethink and this one is now open five days a week (originally seven - closed when I took this).
A new site on the Dyffryn Industrial Estate is planned for 2019. I'm hoping the layout on the new one will be better, perhaps with ramps so one can tip directly down into skips rather than climbing steps or trying to hurl bulky stuff upwards.
