Ballast Bank, Troon
Ballast Bank is a 650m long by 10m high man made earthen bank on the coast at Port Ronnald in Troon. It was created by the Duke of Portland in 1840, using ballast from visiting ships with the intention of protecting the town and his own harbours from the prevailing south westerly winds.

A paved path runs around a sea wall at the base of the bank, with another parallel path running along the top. Both paths offer good views of the Firth of Clyde and the adjacent seafronts.
