Lightwaves 2018, Red Dalek on the Waterfront
The Lightwaves 2018 festival was held between 7th and 16th December. As in previous years, the free event featured a range of impressive light displays and playful art installations; some returning and some newly created. The returning exhibits included the loan of some of the (in)famous Blackpool Illuminations’ tableaux including the Dr Who-themed display which seems to have become a regular December feature of the MediaCityUK waterfront. This year, a red Dalek was including as well as the gold ones and the Tardis (see SJ8097 : Lightwaves Festival - MediaCityUK Waterfront for 2016 photo).

Lightwaves claims to be the UK’s largest free outdoor digital art light show. The annual festival, hosted by Quays Culture, showcases an eclectic programme of digital light art, taking over public spaces in Salford Quays and MediaCityUK each December. Each year, Lightwaves features new and exclusively commissioned digital art displays alongside tableaux borrowed from the Blackpool Illuminations.
