Acton Burnell Castle
Acton Burnell Castle
This is actually a fortified Manor House built by Robert Burnell, Bishop of Bath and Wells in 1283. By the time of the 17th century much of the house had been demolished and all that remains today are the outer walls and the gable end of a barn. It is cared for by English Heritage. It is one of the most off the grid sites that I have visited needing a walk through a wood to reach it.
