Arlington Court

A large country house built in 1820-3 in the neo-classical style by Thomas Lee of Barnstaple for Colonel John Chichester. It was extended from 1865 onwards with the addition of a kitchen and servants’ quarters. It remained in the Chichester family until 1949 when it was bequeathed to the National Trust, following the death without issue of Rosalie Chichester. Grade II* listed – see LinkExternal link

Arlington Court estate

The Arlington Court estate was acquired by the National Trust in November 1945, from Rosalie Chichester, the then resident of Arlington Court. The estate covers around 1,368 hectares (or 13.6 square kilometres). Arlington Court is the focus of the estate, but it includes working farms and woodlands, as well as a deer park.
