An Open Trestle Post Mill in Ashdown Forest, East Sussex and one of only 5 left in the country.
Nutley Windmill

Nutley Windmill is the last open-trestle post mill in Sussex, and only one of five surviving in the country. She is also the only one working. Having an open trestle, Nutley Windmill is a very fine example of the oldest post mill design, known in the country since the 12th century.

Post Mills

There are three main types of windmills found within Great Britain. Post mills, smock mills and tower mills.

The post mill is of a timber framed construction with weather-boarded sloping external walls. It was manually positioned by hand to face the wind, unlike the smock and tower mills which had pivoting top with a tail fan.
