80072 at Corwen
80072 was built at Brighton Works in 1953 and ran on the London, Tilbury and Southend line until 1962. It was transferred to Swansea East Dock and used on services in South and Central Wales. In 1963 it moved to Leamington Spa and was withdrawn from service in 1965. From 1966 to 1988 it lay in a scrapyard at Barry. It resided for some time in Swindon and in 1995 was moved by road to Llangollen. It was finally returned to steam in 2009. It has been on loan for various periods to other preserved railways including the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Severn Valley Railway and West Somerset Railway. 2018 will be the final year of service before the locomotive is withdrawn from traffic as the boiler certificate expires on the 1st January 2019.

The Llangollen Railway currently terminates at Corwen East, a temporary station created in 2015. Work is in progress on a permanent, two-platform terminus station closer to the original station site, together with a new signalbox.
Llangollen Railway :: SJ1143 Originally part of a cross-country route from Ruabon to Barmouth, the Llangollen Railway is now a heritage line predominantly operated by steam locomotives. It runs for ten miles through the Dee Valley between Llangollen and Corwen. The line was originally opened in 1865 but fell victim to the Beeching era cuts, closing to passengers in 1965. It was re-opened section by section from 1975, reaching Carrog in 1996 and Corwen in 2014.
Dwyrain Corwen / Corwen East station The suffix "East" does not imply the existence of two stations in Corwen - there never was more than one railway station in the town, and never will be. But the original GWR station closed in 1964.
The Llangollen Railway reopened an extension from Carrog to Corwen on 1 March 2015, using a temporary wooden platform to the east of the original station, hence the suffix. As of 2017, work was progressing on a permanent, two-platform terminus station closer to the original station site, with a new signalbox.
