NZ1616 : St Lawrence's Chapel from the south

taken 5 years ago, near to Gainford, County Durham, England

St Lawrence's Chapel from the south
St Lawrence's Chapel from the south
Blocked doorways and windows are a feature of the ruins as seen from this side. The west [left] end of the chapel is around a century earlier than the east, but the west end was altered around 1500 with a cross wall inserted so a priests dwelling could be incorporated. This development came late in the history of the chapel which seems to have been abandoned around 1540 along with the adjoining manorial site.
