NY2707 : Crossing Harrison Combe in deep snow
taken 5 years ago, 5 km WNW of Chapel Stile, Cumbria, England
Crossing Harrison Combe in deep snow
Three walkers cross the combe in thick snow which makes for hard work. Despite this the effort is well worth it today as the whole scene is transformed into an almost alpine scale with the great rocky wall of Harrison Stickle looming overhead. Creases and drifts in the snow look almost like crevasses on a glacier and give an idea of what the scene must have been like in the ice ages thousands of years ago.
