NS3779 : Rocks on the line of the inner enclosure

taken 5 years ago, near to Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, Scotland

Rocks on the line of the inner enclosure
Rocks on the line of the inner enclosure
The exposed rock in the foreground may be an outcrop. There is a hill-fort here, and the rock lies on, and has been incorporated in, the line of the fort's inner enclosure. That enclosure recedes from view, curving away gradually to the left; see NS3779 : Rocks on the line of the inner enclosure for the opposite view.

The top of the NS3779 : Millburn Muir transmitter can just be made out behind the outcrop. The Campsie Hills are on the skyline just to the right of that, and the more distant Fintry Hills just to the left.
Carman Hill-fort

This large hill-fort — see LinkExternal link (at Canmore) — was identified in 1954 from aerial photographs, and is thought to date from the Early Historic period (Dark Ages). See Link for a Geograph article on the fort. See LinkExternal link for an annotated satellite view, and Link for other antiquities nearby.
