SP5776 : Greenhaven Woodland Burial Ground

taken 5 years ago, near to Lilbourne, West Northamptonshire, England

Greenhaven Woodland Burial Ground
Greenhaven Woodland Burial Ground
Natural burial grounds have become an increasingly popular alternative to cremations and cemetery burials in recent years. This one near Lilbourne was the first privately owned natural burial ground in the country, opened in 1994. Each plot is marked by a tree rather than a headstone and the intention is that the ground will eventually become an established wood. In addition it is possible to have a dedicated bench some of which are seen here. It is a peaceful site marred slightly by the ever present roar of the nearby motorway.
