Looking towards the East Transept, Tintern Abbey
Tintern Abbey was founded in 1131 as the second Cisterciam Abbey in the UK. Like most abbeys it was affected by the dissolution in 1536 and the removal of lead from the roof led to its decline into a romantic ruin in the beautiful Wye Valley. The East transept here is framed by the Coronation Oak planted to commemorate the coronation of King George V in 1911.
Tintern Abbey is maintained and managed by Cadw.
