SP0786 : Spiceal Street, Birmingham

taken 5 years ago, near to Birmingham, England

Spiceal Street, Birmingham
Spiceal Street, Birmingham
Pedestrianised area surrounding the church of St Martin in the Bull Ring Link . Taken from the bottom end of St Martin's Walk, near the Selfridges building Link . There are steps leading down to Spiceal Street as well as a longer step-free route passing behind the trees on the right. The mast with the iron plates sticking out from it is the sculpture "Timbre" by Wolfgang Buttress.

I am not aware of a definite etymology of this unique street name, but Robin Stott Link and Jon Alexander Link have plausibly suggested that it could relate to spices being traded in this area of Birmingham's market in the past.
