Kent Village Signs
King George VI recommended that the old custom of identifying villages with carved or painted name signs could be revived. In 1920, Biddenden had won a Daily Mail competition for a sign featuring the two Biddenden Maids.
More villages followed, especially in 1953, the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. More signs have been put up due to the Millennium. This has meant half of the county villages are identified.]

Regional cycle Trail 18 (Heron Trail)
This is an 18 mile circular route on the Hoo peninsula, bounded by, the Thames to the north and the Medway to the south. Dickens wrote four of his novels including Great Expectations and Tale of two Cities close by and the area was a popular smugglers haunt. The trail provides a combination of rural and maritime interests, medieval houses hiding behind later facades and spectacular views along the route.
The National Cycle Network
The National Cycle Network is a network of cycle routes. It was created by the charity Sustrans LinkExternal link (Sustainable Transport), aided by a National Lottery grant.

Many routes aim to minimise contact with motor traffic, though 70% of them are on roads.[2] In some cases the NCN uses pedestrian routes, disused railways, minor roads, canal towpaths, or traffic-calmed routes in towns and cities.
