I asked about this on the Old Ackworth FB group and was informed

"It’s the old Stone cutting machine , piece’s of steel like blade’s rock backwards and forwards with water dropping down very slowly cutting through the large pieces of stone."

" it's a sandstone 'gangsaw' ... the wheel you see was driven by belt and moved a 'cradle' side to side. There'd be a number of long straight blades (ie, a 'gang') attached underneath the cradle that would work their way through the huge block of stone by gravity - the blades being lubricated by water from above (the reason for the tank in the picture)"
