The Church of St Peter: Priest's door
The Church of St Peter: Priest's door
The door into the chancel, now disused. This clearly shows the wonderful flint-and-pebble construction.
The church of St Peter, Duxford
Duxford was provided, rather oddly, with two Parish Churches, St Peter's and St John's. The tale is told well in the Victoria County History - see LinkExternal link . The parishes were finally merged in 1874, and St John's became Redundant in 1967 and is in the hands of the Churches Conservation Trust

Dating originally from the 12th Century, St Peter's is built in rubble, a mixture of flints and water-worn pebbles. The tower fabric is original to the 12th Century, the nave and chancel to the 14th, and the materials used, although similar, present a different appearance as a consequence.

The interior was refurbished between 1884-1891 by Ewan Christian; this includes a marble mosaic Reredos in the chancel. The whitewashed interior ws re-painted in 2019.

The bells from St Johns were transferred here in 1947, and hung in the bell chamber seen in a splendid photograph at LinkExternal link

St Peter's is grade I listed: see LinkExternal link
