Cranage hydro power plant - detail
Cranage hydro power plant - detail
The weir on the river Dane originally provided a head of water for the water-powered Cranage Mill. The site is now occupied by Massey Feeds, and the weir is still used for power generation but by means of an enclosed archimides screw installed in 2015 to generate up to 500MWh/year of electricity. This is the tail race of the screw turbine. It's hard to see the screw itself inside the safety grille.
