Cascade water feature at the hotel
The Higher Trapp Hotel was originally built in the early 1900's by a local mill owner as a private house, and is now converted into a country hotel with 29 bedrooms.
Located in the parish of Simonstone Higher Trapp House Hotel is operated by a small local chain called Lavender Hotels, all of whose premises operate under the "Best Western" brand.
The hotel is located next to a farm on Trapp Lane, and there is a Lower Trapp farm a little way down the hill. The upper one is Higher Trapp farm, and hence the name of the house. Trapp is a word that appears in few place names, but may be derived from the Old English/Middle German "Trappe" meaning a stair (Modern German has Treppe). This part of the UK had extensive Norse linguistic influences, and Trapp is modern Norwegian for a staircase. Trapp Lane is certainly steep.
