Photographed when the hotel had been closed for a few years, and was up for sale by then owners Cumbria County Council. The sales brochure included the following historical information : 'Earliest records (1829) indicate that the property was owned by the Reverend Thomas Ramshay and later occupied in 1858 by the Armstrong family and operated as a working farm. Later records show the extension and conversion of the house to a temperance hotel (1910), complete with boathouse and bathing house.'
