NY9936 : Dry Burn

taken 2 months ago, near to Stanhope, County Durham, Great Britain

Dry Burn
Dry Burn
Dry Burn is a fairly common name for streams in uplands and seems curiously contradictory - a stream is after all a feature which transports water! The name is probably most often used where a stream runs low or even dry at certain times. That can hardly be the case for this Dry Burn which runs in a shallow valley and drains the wet moorland on the north side of Catterick.
