St. Dunstan's Church, Stepney, East London
This beautiful church is often spoken of as the Mother Church of the East End. It is, of course, one of the 'Oranges and Lemons' churches, ("When will that be/ Said the bells of Stepney"). By divine providence, Hitler's Luftwaffe failed to demolish it, just as it also failed to demolish the spirit of London's East End.
I was the last publican at 'The Pride of Stepney' I purchased the freehold in 1998 and changed the name back to It's original name 'Clare Hall' It was used more as a night-club in the 2 years i was licensee, i sold up and left to become a daddy.
