Carman Hill: a hollow way west of the fort
The Canmore report for the fort (see the end-note) states that "on the west, a hollow-way leads up to the fort, but this may be of recent origin" (in that connection, it is worth adding that the hill is said to have been the site of a cattle fair).
This picture is a view down that hollow way, looking out from (as large-scale mapping confirms) the western part of the fort's outer enclosure. The Firth of Clyde can be seen in the background.
The hollow way recedes directly from view, then veers off to the left. The change of direction is shown to better effect in a view back up the hollow way from just beyond that bend: NS3779 : Carman Hill: a hollow way west of the fort.
For a similar feature approaching from the other side of the fort, see NS3779 : Carman Hill-fort: sunken approach road. At least one of these hollow ways may be an original approach to the fort.

Carman Hill-fort
This large hill-fort — see Link
(at Canmore) — was identified in 1954 from aerial photographs, and is thought to date from the Early Historic period (Dark Ages). See Link for a Geograph article on the fort. See Link
